Parmar overcomes Sa after epic four hours ______________________________________________ Britain's Arvind Parmar delighted the crowd on court 13 to beat Andre Sa in five sets 7-6 6-7 6-4 4-6 8-6 after an epic battle. It looked like the plucky Brit would lose out as the match entered it's fifth hour as he appeared to be suffereing from cramp. But he held it together and broke in the 13th game of the fifth set before successfully closing out the match. he faces Yevgeny Kafelnikov in round two.

England wicket-keeper Alec Stewart has met representatives of the ICC's Anti Corruption Unit to discuss charges made against him by an Indian bookmaker. In a report published by India's Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) last November Stewart, along with several other world stars, was named by bookmaker Mukesh Gupta as having taken money in exchange for information.

Chelsea have formally completed the Р€7.5million signing of Emmanuel Petit from Barcelona after the former Arsenal midfielder signed a three-year contract at Stamford Bridge. The French international is manager Claudio Ranieri's latest recruit following the summer acquisitions of Frank Lampard from West Ham for Р€11million and William Gallas from Marseille for Р€6.2million.
